What is a LEQ?
LEQ stands for long essay question. LEQ prompts focus on one of the three historical reasoning skills: causes/effects, comparisons, or continuities/changes over time. Students must respond to a prompt by providing an argument and supporting that argument with at least two specific pieces of evidence that fit in the given time period. Responses need to be in complete sentences and follow a traditional essay format (introduction, thesis statement, body paragraphs, conclusion). LEQ essays should take between 30-40 minutes to write.
