Creating a Thesis

 Formula:
      Although X, Y because A and B.
  • X= Counterargument
  • Y= Main argument
  • A, B= specific economic, social, or political reasons to support your main argument

Your thesis should:
  • Have a clear argument!
  • Answer all parts of the question
  • Address the counter argument
  • Establish the setting for your essay
  • Provide insight, purpose, and an outline to your essay
  • Be 1-2 sentences in introduction and restated in the conclusion

Thesis PowerPoint (US History) (see LEQ 101 or DBQ 101 for world history example)

Make a strong argument but acknowledge the other side!

Being a 1, 5, or 10 is a bad idea!

ALWAYS ANSWER THE FULL QUESTION!
