If I were to be transported back to the year 1600, I would bring my AMSCO World History Textbook. The Textbook contains information on world events from the 1200s all the way to the present time. In the 1600s, or the 17th century, life was not as developed as it is now, however some technology was created, such as piped water supplies, banking developments, and stagecoaches. Other technological advancements like the telescope and much artillery came to existence and brought many changes to the empires during this time like England and Asia. Technology was better than it had ever been, however by bringing an AMSCO textbook, I would be able to tell the future events that would happen during the 1600s so that they would be shocked and in awe. I would be able to predict events that occurred during this time, such as Manchu rule of China. With this, they would think I was a magical person or maybe a god of some sort, so then I would be able to take over and seize power.

If I was transported to the year of 1600, I would bring along a sailing catamaran equipped with a modern map of the world and advanced navigational techology, such as GPS, to seize power. With an attached GPS, I will be able to pinpoint my exact location on a map and find the fastest route to reach a point. This GPS will allow me to reach places with ease, which is beneficial, as it will allow me to arrive in many places and establish friendly relations with many people. With these close connections with merchants, rulers and more, I can begin building and consolidating my empire, as I already have a good reputation. Along with the people I've allied with, my empire and I shall reign with superiority over surrounding neighbors. With a catamaron to lead by example, my empire's innovators can break down the boat into parts, which will allow for further creation of the advanced naval technology. According to Kona Style and Univerisite de Montreal, seeing as though the average sailing speed for a catamaran is 12 knots, while it is 4 knots for a caravel, one the most advanced ships of its time, my empire will be able to thrive and integrate themselves into the global economy better than other empires. For instance, they will be able to involve themselves in trade occurring anywhere in general, whether that be Africa, Asia, or the Indian Ocean. With their accessibility to faraway lands, they will be able to conquer and expand my territory. Consequently, expanding the capacity of my overall control.

If I was transported back to 1600, I would bring a projector (the ones we use in class to project images). Considering how ridiculously religious Europeans back in the 1600s were, projecting religious symbols or signs like Jesus onto me would certainly gain their trust and thus help me seize power. I can claim that I am any imaginary god or supernatural power I want, scare people, and plan my lies so everything I say matches up with future events.

If I were to be transported back to the year 1600, I would bring a communist flag to China to help me seize power there. I know that communism had altered the course of history greatly in the 20th century, including new socialist government in Russia, China, and other peripheral or semi-peripheral countries at the time. Because of this, I know that communism is a viable political theory that can result in major political upheaval in my favor. Moreover, communism heavily emphasizes "common ownership of the means of production and the absence of social classes, money and the state." With my communist flag, I can appeal to the hundreds of thousands of peasants, who are likely resentful of the increasingly corrupt imperial bureaucracy and the recent Single Whip Tax that forces them to pay taxes in silver instead of rice. After persuading them that there is a much better alternative in which the peasants can have more money, more food, and better social standing, I can create an army and overthrow the imperial bureaucracy and the emperor. Therefore, the communist flag would ultimately help me seize power in China, so I would bring it to China if I was transported there in 1600.

If I were transported to the 1600s, I would want to bring a digital camera. Cameras allow people to capture real-time photos and store them; this common object had not been invented yet at the time. According to the Nashville Film Institute, the camera was first invented in 1816 by a French man and digital cameras were first in use in the 1900s, though records of developing a camera date back to Han Dynasty China and camera obscura (pinhole cameras) had been used for centuries. Cameras are relatively simple to make (compared with other technology, like guns and compasses at the time): a camera lens exposes a film strip to light, which passes through a lens; this exposure imprints an impression onto an image - a latent picture. This technology would likely revolutionize technology and travel, allowing merchants to have visual evidence of their travels, instead of just writing books. A digital camera would allow me to gain power because I can "rent" it for a very high price to scientists or engineers who want to study it, and maintain leverage over those who are willing to go to extreme lengths to have it. A camera is also not too powerful or significant to the extent where kingdoms would try to kill me or go to war for it. Therefore, I would like to bring a camera to the 1600s.

I would go to the Ottoman Empire and bring an Atomic Bomb. I would go to the Ottoman Empire because it was one of the strongest if not the strongest empire at the time, and once I get there I will tell them i have a weapon i can use for them as long as i get full power and if they don't let me then they go kaboom.

If I were transported back in time to the year 1600, I would bring with me a modern-day almanac. An modern-day almanac would contain all the necessary information to predict natural phenomena such as the moon cycles, sunsets and sunrises, tides, and other astronomical events. Although people during this time had some astronomical knowledge, my almanac would allow me precisely predict every single astronomical event. As a result, people would view me as a sort of all-knowing god and I would be able to easily gain the trust and power I need to conquer the world.

If I was allowed to take one item to the 1600s, I would take the Welcome Stranger gold nugget. This nugget is the biggest (whole) gold nugget ever dug up, weighing a total of 3,524 ounces. Back in the 1600s, the Europeans were obssesed with becoming the richest and most powerful empires, traveling to the Americas with the prospect of finding gold or silver. If I travel with this giant gold nugget, I would first break the it into pieces of gold as proof, and I would show them to the rulers of various states. I would create a tribute system and give the rulers pieces of gold in return for being loyal to me and following my bidding. I would begin my own empire create my own military in case any state decides to rob me of my gold. I would also secretly send people to places like California to dig up more gold so that my reign can continue. This is why I would take the Welcome Stranger gold nugger to the 1600s.

If transported to the year 1600, I would choose to bring a cellphone as my one item to potentially gain influence and power. The cellphone, despite being seemingly ordinary in today's world, is a technological marvel in the context of the 17th century. Its capability to communicate globally, access vast information, and serve as a multifunctional device would be perceived as an object of immense power and mystique. The capacity to make calls, capture images, record audio and video, access vast knowledge, and potentially even use its advanced capabilities in fields such as mathematics, astronomy, and navigation could confer a godlike status upon its possessor. The device's abilities to predict weather, communicate over long distances, and display seemingly magical information would undoubtedly position me as an individual of unmatched wisdom and authority in a time where such capabilities were unimaginable, potentially allowing for the consolidation of power and influence.

I would bring a letter from the current king (whichever 17th century year I go to) investing me with leadership over the military. This would be signed, dated, written, and sealed with the appropriate seal. At the time seals were what proved the authenticity of a document and as such if it was identical to an official one of the time period there would be no way to argue against it. Either that or one from the papacy, but the papacy had declined in power after the 1500s. (Papacy used lead seals, maybe I could poison someone idk /j). Control over the military would give me the ability to seize power if i was able to gain the confidence of my troops (coughs in Napoleon).

If I was transported to the year 1600, and could only bring 1 item to help me gain power, I would bring the book "How to Invent Everything: A Survival Guide for the Stranded Time Traveler, " by Ryan North. I would first use the book to create an automatic firearm, which would allow me to coerce people on to my side through fear. I would then use these people to develop a monopoly producing everything from this book, but using them to protect my trade secrets, so I can maintain my monopoly indefinitely. This would help me gain power by granting me with enough money to overthrow the current leader of whatever empire I'm in, and replacing them.

I would choose to bring a walkie talkie to Europe in the 1600s. With the use of a walkie talkie not needing any internet because they run on radio waves, through this I would use the walkie talkie's accessibility and I could hide it in churches and speak to the people attending the church as if I was God. Due to how religious the Europeans were, they would be so blinded by religious faith and awe that they would not suspect a thing. Now I have them under the palm of my hand and as "God" I could command them to do many things such as making me leader of Europe and they would listen. If a person were to reject and oppose my crowning, I would reveal my walkie talkie, a letter to talk to God, saying that I am the chosen one of God with a playback of a voice recording. All competition would cease to exist because of this walkie talkie, any blame could be deflected off me. And by the time the batteries of the walkie talkie have died, I would have built a huge army of Christians to overthrow every empire by striking fear into the enemies. However, I would have to be religiously intolerant in my kingdom so as to not cause a revolt. In the end, I will become the Ruler of the World.

If I was transported to year 1600 and could bring anything from this world that could help me seize power, I would bring a vial of a sample that contained a disease from the modern world(maybe Covid-19). For instance, due to my body being already fairly resistant to the disease after receiving modern vaccinations and an immune system already adapted to the disease, I could infect multiple populations(first by dispersing onto an animal as a carrier where it would infect a human and they would infect another human by coughing or sneezing and the cycle would continue). Through this method, similarly to the Black Death but also different, I could seize power because I would be unaffected by the virus, allowing me to eliminate any oppositions to my power.

If I was transported back to the year 1600, I would bring a light bulb. The light bulb is the most important invention because it helped establish social order after sundown, extended the workday well into the night, and allowed us to navigate and travel safely in the dark. This will help me seize power by showing the people that they need to depend on the lightbulb for their everyday use. This invention changed the economic, social, and political status of the world.

If I'd transported to the 1600's, to take control, I would bring drugs. A simple and effective drug to synthesize would be my main goal to bring. I could bring a heroin synthesizing kit, but it is way to difficult. However, if i were to bring Pholiotina cyanopus, a breed of mushrooms that have psychedelic properties, I'll be able to control people with them. Mushrooms are not generally addictive but, if I relate it to god or divine spirituality these people wouldn't bat an eye. It's also great because there other species like pholiotina rugosa, cortinarius gentilis, galerina marginata or galerina padulosa that can easily mixed up with Pholiotina cyanopus and would kill them. That could be useful incase the people try to find the mushrooms themselves; I could just say god didn't like you searching for mushrooms because you're "unholy". However, I would choose heroin over the mushrooms since the mushrooms aren't physically addictive, which is an important part of my scheme.
